We have an exciting announcement to make!
Next week, the international “Towards halving food waste” conference will take place in the Netherlands. The event will bring together representatives from companies, public- and scientific organizations, and civil society with high ambitions of halving food waste by 2030 – from farm to fork!
While we are also busy with our advocacy efforts at the EU level – pushing for the world’s ever binding food waste reduction targets, together with a powerful coalition of Zero Waste Europe, Safe Food Advocacy Europe, the EEB, as well as Too Good To Go – we are happy to present our work at next week’s conference.
Because while everything should be done to reduce food waste, we are currently moving into the wrong direction. With the political and industrial push for more and more biomethane production, we risk building up perverse incentives to use food “waste” for energy rather prevent it or use it as feed for animals.
Our Director Frank Mechielsen will therefore take the opportunity to highlight the risks associated with biomethane, as well as explain what must happen now to ensure that EU biomethane production does not threaten food waste prevention efforts.
We are looking forward to meeting many of you next week!
